Definition of Sexual Abuse:  Child sexual abuse is any form of sexual activity imposed upon a child by an adult OR another child in a position of power, authority or influence.  Child sexual abuse can involve touching the intimate parts of a child’s body, enticing or forcing the child to have sexual relations, or participating in non-touching offenses such as obscene phone calls or taking pornographic photos.

  The Prevention of Child Sexual Abuse Begins Here!

SafeChildrenUSA, Inc. is headquarted in Sarasota, FL and is one of the MOST proactive organizations in the United States when it comes to the prevention of child sexual abuse. We provide Power Point programs (Free of Charge) to parents, children, groups and professionals. These programs give the audience the tools they need to prevent child sexual abuse through education and awareness of the facts surrounding this horrible, yet very realistic crime. Our programs are designed and written by current and retired LAW ENFORECEMENT OFFICERS, they are certified through the Florida Department of law Enforcement and the Criminal Justice Standards & Training Commission.  They also have extensive EXPERTISE in Sex Offender Management and Crimes Against Children.

Here are some little known FACTS that NEED to be recognized;

  • There are over 700,000 "registered" sex offenders in the United States, this number grows daily;
  • 1 in 3 girls will be sexually abused by the age of 18;
  • 1 in 5 boys will be sexually abused by the age of 18;
  • But only 1 in 10 of those victims will "ever" disclose that they have been sexually abused;
  • The average sex offender has over 114 victims in a lifetime, partly due to the low disclosure rate as indicated above;
  • 34% of child sexual abuse victims are abused by family members;
  • 59% of child sexual abuse victims are abused by a friend and/or aquaintence;
  • Subsequently 93% of child sexual abuse victims know their attacker - the term "stranger danger" needs to be used with caution in reference to child sexual abuse;
  • 57% of convicted sex offenders report being sexually abused as a child, giving credibility to the fact that this is a "generational" problem;
  • 1 in 5 children will come in contact with a sex offender on the internet through various social network sites

The term "PROACTIVE" is to act before an event in hopes of preventing that act from ever happening. The term "REACTIVE" is to wait until an event happens and then act accordingly in response to that event. When it comes to child sexual abuse, a "reactive" stance is NOT an option!  We cannot wait until a child is victimized and then react to that situation, the actual act and subsequent emotional damage cannot be undone, no matter how tough the criminal laws are.  Prevention programs are a common sense, low cost means to protecting our children!  It costs federal, state and local governments millions of dollars every year to investigate, prosecute, imprison and then monitor these offenders once released from jail, not to mention the costs that come from the child victim, emotionally and punitively.  We need to work together to keep our children from becoming victims and prevention is the quickest, educationally proven and most cost effective way to corral child sexual abuse.
